The Washington Post had an article in their Lifestyle section several days ago titled " Eating Meat , with a Side Order of Conflicting Emotions" which was actually pretty well done. While not really super vegan-friendly ( what with all the references to animals as tasty morsels and such ), it did not really pander too much to the meat industry, and in fact said that the American Meat Institute ( AMI ) is on the defense because of reduced meat consumption, leading the AMI to launch a website called Meat MythCrushers. The website features unabashedly pro-feedlot, pro-factory farm videos answering questions about the industry and it's practices. From an industrial meat-eating and animal/ land/ people-crushing perspective of course. A new video is titled " Myth: Larger Modern Cattle Operations Today Have a Greater Negative Impact than Smaller, Local Operations". It laughingly exposes all of the cattle raising methods, by way of trying to defend their own...nice :) See it here.
Finally..... a post ! I've been busy with a few things around the house , teaching Vegan Cooking Demystified to a great group of people and getting outside for some hiking/biking or just plain old walking, when the weather allows. Not too many excuses here...people get out in just about any weather ! We saw a college student crossing Baseline and Broadway the other day wearing shorts, t-shirt and flip flops. It was 19 degrees.
I came across this interesting post from Vegan Feminist Agitator, featuring a little video of her 9 year old son explaining his veganism. Sweet innocence and obvious love of animals :) It apparently went a little viral and a few people took offense and accused the mother of "indoctrinating" her son with her own"vegan agenda"....but she defended herself, her son and veganism quite well, saying that however and whatever we feed our kids we are presenting them with a message. Her message just happens to be a conscious decision to not eat animals, their milk or their eggs. Yay !
Greetings from Boulder, CO ! I'll be blogging about our new life here on the Front Range where the Plains meet the Rockies in awesome geologic confluence :)
